cold sore?
ok here’s my question. one day i went outside to walk around and i suddenly started to feel the left side of my lower lip begin to swell a little. I didn’t know what it was but it was bugging me. i put some lip balm on it and forgot all about it until the next day. when i woke up there was a red patch that sort of looked like a where it was once swollen. it grew a bit over the day. my friend told me it was a cold sore. i put lip balm on it and it sort of went away. there is now pink skin, which means it’s healing, right? well, now for some reason i have started to get little white bumps all over my fingers. it started with one bump but now it’s starting to spread. is it because of the cold sore? what is it? what should i do. also any home remedies for a cold sore? i can’t afford abreva.
ps. i’ve never had sex. so it couldn’t be a std, right?
the bumps started showing up the day right after i got the cold sore. i thought they might be related. also, the bumps are clear. they look like they have water inside. they are mostly in between my left hand’s pinky and the finger right next to it. they’ve started to spread to my other fingers and to my right hand. aahh! i read something somewhere about bumps showing up on your hands and feet when you have syphilis. could that be it??
well a cold sore is a type of herpes (i think that’s how you spell it) you could use carmex to get rid of the cold sore. i don’t know about the little white bumps. doctors think that cold sores are caused by stress, really hot weather, or really cold weather.
Comments
The white bumps have nothing to do with your fever blister. And you don’t have to have sex to get certain forms of herpes. The fever blister will go away; give it a few days.

I do not know that the two are related… herpes simplex (cold sores) are not necessarily a result of an STD… it can come from sharing lip balm with someone who has had a cold sore!!
It is possible that it is actually a sun blister. I use DCT – a balm that comes in a little peach colored canister (right in the lip balm section). It has spf in it… and I use it religiously. If anyone else dips their finger in my balm, I just throw it away and get a new one. Lip balm is like my toothbrush. Only I get to use it. It runs about $3 (U.S.) and works better for me than Abreva.
Now.. the little white bumps all over your fingers is a whole other issue… it is possible that this is a symptom of toxic shock syndrome… see a doctor! it might be something as simple as an allergic reaction to a lotion or soap… or something more sinister. Not trying to scare you, but see a dermatologist if you can.

First, the cold sore – are you sure it is a cold sore? Cold sores are very specific in their development – if you haven’t noticed any blistering/weeping/crusting – it may be something else. I suffer from peri-oral dermatitis, and I get these red bumps around my lips – I’m sure people probably think it’s a cold sore or something (I did at first too since I’ve never had one – which sent me running to my dermatologist) but it’s actually a dermatitis condition. It gets aggravated by moisture and flares up in the summer when I sweat. Anyways – just because you have something on your lip doesn’t mean it’s a cold sore – that’s just what people tend to think. It could also be oral cancer, so you always should have things checked if it doesn’t go away. Second – the bumps on your hands – they have nothing to do with cold sores or the herpes virus. It’s probably a type of eczema called dyshidrotic eczema. I get this too – usually during the summer as well. Mine is extremely mild, just a couple little bumps that pop up on my thumb for some reason. My doctor gave me a mild steroid cream, and as long as I’m good about remembering to apply it – it goes away.
