Use Ice
Ice is a very good home remedy for cold sores. Rub ice on the infected skin for few minutes, repeat this every hour.
Use Tea Bag
Apply a tea bag for few minutes on the blisters, repeat this every hour. One can also consider pressing a warm tea bag on the blisters for approximately 30 minutes.
Other Remedies
Applying Witch Hazel on sores will give you some relief. Dip your moist index finger in powdered common salt and press the sore for 30 seconds using this index finger. Gently rub aloe vera gel or oil on the sores. Lemon balm extract helps to reduce symptoms and speeds up healing. Those having weak immune system will take more time to recover and may face more severe consequences. References : http://www.home-remedies-for-you.com/remedy/Cold-Sores.html

I use salt. If it’s on your lip or close to it, just put straight table salt on it and it’ll just suck out the infection and make it heal faster. References :

You prevent them by staying away from refined sugars and eating whole foods. Because this virus rears its ugly head when your PH balance is acidic.
To test this, eat cookies, danishes, Star Bucks and ice cream and three days later, you will have a flare up of cold sores.
In the mean time, gargle with salt water and stay away from citrus and sugar that will irritate it. References :

Ok…Do people know that cold sores are a virus? It is Herpes. The only thing you can do is wait. They come when you are stressed or if you have endured harsh weather. Things of that nature. Vitamin C is probably the best thing, like the other person said. Vitamin C helps your body fight disease/infection. A home remedy for a virus? Ok, put oatmeal in a bathtub, and balance four plates on your head while having a person pour mayonnaise on your toes. You must be jumping 1.3 feet in the air while singing Barracuda in a clockwise direction. When you finish the song sing it backwards and jump in the opposite direction. References :
