what is the best ointment for cold sores?

category: cold sores
by admin,

I have cold sores on my lips. What is the best ointment to make it go away soon?

Get some Abreva, call your doctor for a prescription for Valtrex (it helps cold sores, too), and start taking L-lysine pills.

Go to a pharmacist. You can get ointments or creams with acyclovir in them which stops the herpes virus reproducing (so your outbreaks will die down. (And yes, cold sores = herpes and you should treat them as such – you are infectious.)

If you have a bit more money to spend, buy some L-Lysine pills. It’s an amino acid that also interferes with herpes.

Cold sores are caused by a virus called Herpes Simplex. Once the cold sore formes into a blister, not much will help to make it go away faster. It will heal in approximately 1-2 weeks.

If you are prone to frequent cold sores, get Abreva available over-the-counter, and at the first feeling of tingling start to apply it to the forming sore 5 times a day. If you catch it early enough, Abreva will prevent the sore from forming into a blister, and the sore will go away fairly quickly!

    Campho Phenique. It’s great.
It comes in a good sized (but small) yellow and white tube. It works really good and the cold sore should be gone in about two days if you use it regularly. It’s also surprisingly cheap.
