Acidophilus Take four acidophilus capsules three or four times a day with milk. The milk is an activating culture medium for the bacilli. This will soothe the sore and speed up healing. If you do this when you feel a burning or itching at the onset of the cold sore, this remedy may inhibit the formation of the lesion.
Aloe When the tingling starts, try rubbing juice from an aloe plant on the affected area. If you are traveling, take a bottle of aloe gel with you just in case a sore begins. This remedy is especially effective if used at the first sign of a cold sore, but will also stop it later on, too, and will begin the healing process immediately and keep the sore from "blossoming."
Chaparral Native Americans used the herb chaparral (Larrea tridentata) as a remedy for colds and viruses, arthritis, burns, sores and other problems. Recently a company has patented a product called Larreastat derived from chaparral that has proven very effective in deactivating certain viruses, relieving inflammation and clearing up certain skin conditions. The product comes in capsules and a spray, which provides almost instant relief from cold sore pain.

Camphor Have your pharmacist mix up some spirits of camphor and dab it on the sore with a cotton ball.

I need a fast way to get rid of cold sores?
I hate cold sores! They look so horrible! I need a fast way to get rid of cold sores without a prescription. Maybe a home remedy. Help!
I have always used alcohol and i am not talking jack, pure alcohol will dry it up and it usually goes away within a day if used all the time. apply with Q-tip and keep it dry. If it gets wet it will kep getting bigger and bigger. I get at least three a year and can tell when they are coming and i use alcohol as soon as the first little bump pops up.
P.S. if it is really big, it will burn a little.
my mom used to drink buttermilk a lot when she had a cold sore.. but butter milk is gross!

How to make swelling in cold sores go down?
I got sick and woke up with 2 cold sores, they werent that bad. Well 2 days later I woke up with another one that has caused my lip to swell! It looks like ive bit hit in that spot about 10 times. It embarrassing! Ive read that nothing works on cold sores. Ive tried Abreva a while back but it didnt work at all! Does anyone know of ANYTHING that helps heal these things or at least make the swelling go down?
No ice, Ice only eases the pain. It causes the blisters to dry up and sometimes bleed. I forgot to mention that ive been dealing with these all my life. Im using carmex right now, it stops the tingling and itching but the swelling is whats getting to me!
you could try ice cubes for swelling to go down i use blisteez cream

does anyone have a cold sore remedy ?!?
i have a cold sore on the side of my lip from the artic blast we had here in MA. i have a date tonight and would like to have this shrink, if not completely disappear. what are some remedies or things that will make this go away ?! thank you for your help !
when i first feel the tinqle i put salt on an icecube then rub it on the site. i do this about once every 2O minutes . it should at least slow down if not stop qrowth . also dont touch or irritate it that only makes it qrow faster and spread.

What are the causes for cold sores?
I’ve been getting cold sores every since i was in like elementary school and I’ve been out of school since 06. I get them a couple times a year. What are the causes and how can i get rid of them for good?
All cold sores are caused by the herpes virus and you cannot get rid of them for good. Once you have the herpes virus you have it for life. Once the cold sore has erupted, it will have to run its course. There is only one quick treatment for cold sores, and that is Valtrex, but unless you already have a prescription for it, it won’t work well for this cold sore. There is no over-the-counter medication or home remedy that cures cold sores, but Valtrex, which is an anti-viral medication, will make them go away much faster, and as a result of taking this medication you will have far fewer outbreaks of cold sores. It was intended for genital herpes, but cold sores are caused by the same family of viruses, and Valtrex stops colds sores in their tracks. None of the other treatments come close to the effectiveness of Valtrex, not the ointment Zovirax, and certainly not Abreva or anything else. Ask your doctor about it to see if you would be a good candidate for this medication.
Many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores. We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene. cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.
